There are some fantastic lemon balm benefits for skin, mind and body, which I'll bet you've never heard of before.

What Is lemon balm?

Lemon balm, which is also called Melissa Officinalis, is a herb that is native to Europe but can now be found all over the world. Lemon balm is a calming herb that both bees and people like. It helps lower stress and anxiety and helps people sleep well and feel refreshed.

It is related to the mint family of plants and looks a bit like mint, with lobe-shaped, dense green leaves that smell like lemon. Lemon balm is a beautiful addition to any herb garden or border, and it goes well with other trees and flowers. I think every garden lover should have some lemon balm. It grows anywhere with good soil and sun, and it's great to keep in pots or on windowsills to bring wildlife into your home or yard.

lemon balm plant uses

You can do so many things with lemon balm!
One of my favourite things to do in the summer is to pick fresh lemon balm leaves and make a plant tea with freshly boiled water. Depending on how hot it is, I drink it both hot and cold.
It's a great plant for helping digestion and waking you up in a healthy way. It also gives your body what it needs from the inside.
For a spicy boost, you could chop up some fresh lemon balm leaves and add them to a salad.
Or, why not put some lemon balm leaves and orange or other fruit pieces in cold, filtered water to make a tasty, healthy drink?
You can even dry fresh lemon balm on a drying rack or something similar. Once they are dry, you can chop them finely and store them for the winter to use in cooking or to make your own beauty products.
I mostly use lemon balm to make me feel better when I'm having a bad day. I also really like the essential oil.
It makes me happy just to smell it, and it's interesting how many studies have been done on lemon balm over the years to show how good it is for the body.

lemon balm skin benefits

Lemon balm is great for the face for many reasons, but mostly because it calms inflammation and kills bacteria. It's soothing for skin that gives you trouble, and it helps clear up scars, cuts, and spots better than store-bought products, which are often full of chemicals that are bad for your skin and can make it worse.

Also, it helps slow down the signs of ageing by being a great moisturiser for dry, damaged skin on the face and body, smoothing out fine lines, and making dark circles under the eyes look less noticeable. What about blackheads, though? So, I have good news! Lemon balm makes clogged pores look less obvious because it has qualities that tighten the skin naturally.

lemon balm oil

Lemon balm, which is also called Melissa, is also available as an oil.You can buy it as Melissa essential oil, which is made by steam distilling the plant's leaves, just like other essential oils. Despite the fact that it is one of the most expensive oils.Another way to use it is to make what is called "lemon balm oil," which is not the same as the essential oil.

Lemon balm oil is made by grinding the leaves and stems of fresh lemon balm and mixing them with a carrier oil, like fractioned coconut oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil, and then slowly heating the mixture. In the recipe below, you will need lemon balm oil, not essential oil. I make my own lemon balm oil from scratch because it's cheaper, better for the earth, and fun to do.

It takes a few weeks to be ready because you have to store it so that the healing qualities of the herb get into the oil. The longer you can let it sit, the better, so give it at least a month. At the end, you need to filter it, which is easy to do with a sieve or muslin cloth. If you don't have the time to make your own lemon balm oil, here's the one I use. Here's a recipe for you to try if you want to make your own lemon balm cream with lemon balm oil.

 Lemon Balm Salve Recipe

This is my go-to, easy-to-make, and very effective lemon balm lotion recipe. I hope you like it as much as I do.
It's a great skin saver that helps with spots, burns, age spots, dry skin, cuts, and scrapes. I use it for everything that has to do with my skin.

Ingredients

  • Candelilla wax
  • Jojoba and olive oil
  • Lemon balm oil (not the essential oil)
  • Tin for storage

In a small pot over low heat, melt the wax with the jojoba and olive oil. Then add the lemon balm oil and stir.
Move the mixture to a metal storage tin and set it aside to harden completely. Once it's hard, you can use it right away.

Lemon Balm Side-effects

The most important thing to know is that lemon balm isn't thought to be safe for thyroid problems because it can change how the thyroid works.
Aside from that, it's usually safe to use, but always be careful and talk to your doctor first.
Always try it out on a small spot first, and don't use too much.

why you will love this recipe

One of the best things about this recipe is that it's easy to put together and use.
Once it's done, it only takes a few hours to harden, but for the best results, let it sit for at least 24 hours.
You'll also love how this cream smells like fresh lemons.
You can put it on any part of your body except your eyes and other sensitive areas.
It's also great because everyone can use it. So you can use it for just about any skin problem, and it won't hurt you.
It has qualities that kill bacteria and viruses, so it is great for skin that needs a little extra care.
Because lemon balm is good for your skin in so many ways, you should include it in your herb garden next spring.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. Leave a comment below if you try making it, and let me know how it goes. I love it when you write to me.
